Reverend Albert “Potts” Luther Miller, 77, of LaFollette

Reverend Albert “Potts” Luther Miller, 77, of LaFollette, Tennessee, was called to his Heavenly home, Saturday, March 11, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Conda Lee and Lillie (Brantley), and his sister Joan Catheline Miller.

Albert was born on September 18, 1939 in LaFollette, Tennessee to Conda Lee and Lillie (Brantley) Miller. He was a graduate of LaFollette High School in 1961, where he was a member of the football, basketball and track teams. On May 9, 1968 he married Judith Elaine Russell originally from Caryville, TN. He was employed as a Plant Coordinator at A&S Steel Buildings for 30 years before retiring. Albert was of Baptist faith and a member of First Independent Missionary Baptist Church. In 1973 he was led to serve in the ministry. During his time of service to the Lord he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, participated in regional jail and prison ministries and served as guest preacher to many churches in the area as well as at his home church. After retiring from A&S he was called to serve as Pastor at First Independent Missionary Baptist Church in LaFollettte from 2004 to 2008. In his spare time he extended his ministry outside of church to those in need in the community, making many home and hospital visits or phone calls to share the Word. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grand-children, fishing, and was an avid sports fan with particular interest in any and all University of Tennessee sports.

Albert is survived by his wife, Judith Elaine (Russell) Miller, his son, Russell Alan Miller, his wife Carla Michelle and their children Jonathan Albert and Sarah Ann of Kennesaw, GA, his daughter, DeAnna Elaine (Miller) Gist and her husband John Daily of Smyrna, TN, and his brother, Willis Lee Miller of Martinez, GA.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 8 at First Independent Missionary Baptist Church in LaFollette. Reverend Don Whited and Reverend Jimmy Ault will be officiating.

Receiving of friends will be from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., with memorial service to begin at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
