Smoot to remain jailed, trial slated for March

A Knoxville man charged with first-degree murder in the death of his former employee and girlfriend will remain behind bars. Shawn Smoot is accused of killing Brook Morris, whose body was found along a rural Roane County roadway in 2011. She’d been shot to death. On Tuesday, a Roane County judge denied bond for Smoot. Smoot’s trial is set to start on March 29. His court proceedings have been delayed numerous times as he is now on his fourth set of attorneys.
