Tuesday at Halls, the Lady Red Devils got off to a blistering shooting start, canning five three-pointers in the first quarter and building a large early lead that allowed them to withstand a late push from Clinton and emerge with a 62-48 victory. Halls improved to 1-5, 1-1 in District play while Clinton (0-9, 0-3) remained winless. Griffin Parker led three double-figure scorers Halls while Kelley Wandell scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Clinton, which also got a double-double from Katie Starnes, who tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday. Senior Maddie Embleton was on crutches on the bench for Clinton, one night after injuring her knee against Coalfield. The extent of her injury will be made clearer after an MRI scheduled for early next week.
In other local girls’ action, the Anderson County Lady Mavs got 27 points from Brooklin McCoy as they beat Gibbs 79-56 to improve to 2-8, 1-1.
Oak Ridge knocked off Powell 55-43 behind 21 points from Mykia Dowdell.
Sequoyah’s girls nipped Oliver Springs 45-43.
