Tuesday night the Clinton Dragons got two clutch free throws from Tyler Thackerson with 1.3 seconds to play in the fourth quarter to edge Halls 55-54 for their first District 3AAA win of the season. The game at Halls was a back-and-forth affair with neither team able to gain any separation throughout the contest and Clinton improved to 6-3, 1-2 in D3AAA. The two free throws capped a 17-point night from Thackerson, who was bolstered by 13 points by J’Quan Thomas and nine points off the bench from Quincy McGhee. Halls (2-4, 0-2) was led by Jordan Billiter and Evan Roberts, who each scored 14 points.
In other local action, Gibbs’ boys downed Anderson County 71-68 despite 19 points from Zeke Green. The Mavericks fell to 7-4 with the loss, 0-2 in D3AAA.
Oak Ridge got by Powell 78-61 as Taijon Jones tallied 22 points and tee Higgins contributed 21.
Oliver Springs came up just short against Sequoyah, falling by the final score of 57-54.
