John Hunter Nemechek managed his fuel mileage to perfection Saturday at Chicagoland Speedway, outlasting the competition to claim his first career win in his twenty-third start. Nemechek, 18-year-old son of veteran Sprint Cup Series driver Joe Nemechek, inherited the lead two laps from the finish when race leader Kyle Larson pitted for fuel. His margin of victory over runner-up Tyler Reddick was a whopping twelve seconds with Timothy Peters, Daniel Suarez and Johnny Sauter completing the top five. Nemechek’s Number-8 unsponsored Chevrolet did run out of fuel in the final corner of the final lap but had enough momentum to coast across the start-finish line … The race was originally scheduled for Friday night but was postponed by rain.
